About us!
Based in the city of Canterbury, The Canterbury Players is an Amateur Dramatics group united by a love of theatre. We are proud of our reputation for high quality productions, and we have created a community of generous members who dedicate their time and energy into supporting our journey.

Performing with us

We are open to all thespians who are interested in performing with us! No matter your experience on stage, everyone is welcome to audition for our shows. Alternatively, if you prefer the director’s chair or a role behind the scenes, we are always looking for crew members to give us a hand in all areas of each production.

On the social side

Throughout the year, we host a number of events to keep our members connected in between productions. Our list of previous socials includes christmas parties, playreadings, board game nights, quizzes, and even a Shakespeare read-a-thon!

There are also opportunities to participate in professional workshops to improve your acting skills. In the past these have included workshops for stagefighting, speech and movement.
Recent Achievements
In 2016, The Canterbury Players was one of 16 amateur groups selected to be involved with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in which the amateur actors performed as Shakespeare’s ‘Mechanicals’.

In 2024, the Canterbury Players participated in an international conference celebrating the life and career of playwright Aphra Behn. During this conference, the Players had the chance to perform Behn’s 1671 play 'The Amorous Prince' for the first time since its initial performance. We were featured in international media for our production, and we were honoured to be involved in a celebration of the work of the first female playwright in England.
